Abstract:It is well-known that Kahler-Einstein metrics can form moduli and local structure of the moduli is essentially characterized by the deformation theory of complex structures. Global moduli theory will involve the study of limits of a sequence of Kahler-Einstein metrics, in the sense of Gromov-Hausdorff convergence. An interesting and important question is to understand the algebro -geometric meaning of these Gromov-Hausdorff limits and their singularities, and of the moduli space itself. Related results play a fundamental role in the recent proof of the Kahler-Einstein result on Fano manifolds, and also motivate sensible algebro -geometric questions. I will discuss recent work on this direction. The first talk will be a general introduction, and in the second and the third we will explain more detailed results and possibly present some parts of the proof.
