Title: Controllability of the KdV equation using right Neumann or Dirichlet controls

Abstract:Local controllability of the KdV equation using right Neumann or Dirichlet controls at critical lengths has been the subject of several interesting open problems. This is due to the fact that the linearized systems are not controllable in finite time. In this talk, I will present recent progress in the study of these problems. From a technical point of view, several new ideas are introduced. Regarding the underlying phenomena, various scenarios may occur: controllability in small time, controllability in finite time, and lack of controllability in finite time. Connections with other related problems and questions will also be discussed.

Title: Characterizations of the Sobolev norms and the total variation via nonlocal functionals, and related problems

Abstract:We briefly discuss the contribution of Haiim Brezis and his co-authors on the characterizations of the Sobolev norms and the total variation using non-local functionals. Some ideas of the analysis are given and new results are presented.
