Abstract:
This talk is based on a recent joint work with Alexander Bufetov. We obtain a complete classification of ergodic probability measures on the space of p-adic infinite matrices under the natural action of the product of p-adic analogue of infinite-dimensional orthogonal group.
Two main ingredients in our approach towards this classification result are:
1. an essential use of asymptotic law of fixed size truncation of large random matrix in p-adic setting.
2. a new and simple proof of ergodicity of orbital limit invariant probability measures from the multiplicativity of their Fourier transforms.
I will also discuss an interpretation of this new result in representation theory for ''a large group''-- the infinite dimensional Cartan motion group associated with our group action.
Our approach works for any non-discrete non -archimedean local field.
