Abstract:
In this talk, I will explain how the modern theory of fusion categories (certain semisimple abelian categories) can be applied to condensed matter physics in its full strength. In particular, I will explain how the representation theory of fusion categories can be used to construct lattice models that can realize the so-called topological phases of matters (or topological orders), and how the theory of fusion categories can provide answers to many important questions in physics.
