Title:Efficient estimation of the quantum Chernoff bound

Abstract: The quantum phase has long been recognized as a fundamental yet elusive concept in quantum optics. In this work, we introduce an information-theoretic quantifier for quantum phase uncertainty based on the generalized Wigner-Yanase skew information, applied to the Susskind-Glogower (SG) phase operator E. We show that this quantifier, denoted I(ρ,E), satisfies natural physical requirements and captures the intuitive behavior of phase uncertainty. Our work offers a unified framework for quantifying phase uncertainty and opens new avenues for exploring phase as a quantum resource.
