摘 要: Hydrodynamic stability has been an active field since Reynolds’s experiment in 1883. This field is mainly concerned with how the laminar flows become unstable and transit to turbulence. On one hand, some laminar flows such as plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow are linearly stable for any Reynolds number. On the other hand, these flows could become nonlinearly unstable and transit to turbulence for small but finite perturbations at high Reynolds number. The resolution of this paradox is a long-standing problem in the fluid mechanics. In this talk, I will introduce some recent progress in understanding the transition mechanism by two means: pseudospectra of the linearized NS operator and transition threshold problem proposed by Trefethen et al. (Science 1993).

章志飞教授简介:

章志飞，北京大学数学科学学院博雅特聘教授。他主要从事偏微分方程的理论研究，在流体力学方程的适定性、自由界面问题、液晶模型一致性的数学理论以及流动稳定性等方面取得了一系列重要的研究成果。他已在CPAM, Annales ENS, Memoirs AMS等顶尖数学刊物上发表学术论文100余篇。他2011年入选中组部首批青年拔尖人才支持计划、2014年获国家杰出青年科学基金、2017年入选教育部长江学者特聘教授、2019年入选中组部“万人计划”科技创新领军人才、2022年国际数学家大会邀请报告。
